Homeland is a multi-faceted, multi-level, abstract and concrete concept that includes space, places, home, people, their welfare and families. The homeland also also stands for a value. John Paul II spoke and wrote about homeland many times. The texts of his homilies and speeches given during his subsequent pilgrimages to Poland, published in a collection Pilgrimages to the Homeland 1979–1983–1987–1991–1995–1997–1999–2002. Speeches, homilies, Krakow 2006 are analyzed in this article. Antropocentrism is what draw special attention to Karol Wojtyła’s understanding of homeland. It is a concept that requires openness to other people, commitment, patriotism and responsibility. In the papal texts, the relationship between the fatherland and people in a specific geographical, social, historical, cultural, axiological and symbolic space assumes familial dependencies. Most often, the homeland is presented as a loving mother whom he loves, respects and to whom he is grateful. In John Paul II’s text, the homeland is primarily represented by people, compatriots whoare parts of a community despite their differences. Their homeland allows them to feel solidarity, enjoy the same origin, the same identity and the same emotions, attachment. They live according to certain ethical principles and values, co-creating a non-monolithic culture. They also share a sense of uniqueness of their country’s history and responsibility for its future. The homeland is also a great, spiritual and timeless value, transcendent, combining the sanctum and the sacrum.
